Career Counselling for Schools: What to Look For in a Programme

William CognityBy William Cognity · 16 October 2026 · 5 min read
In short: A checklist for school leaders choosing a career guidance programme: method, training, tracking and honest claims.

Choosing a career programme is a big decision for a school. These questions help you compare options fairly.

1. Is the method clear?

Ask what the programme does in each year group. A good one has simple steps that counsellors and teachers can follow.

2. Is staff training included?

Even a good method fails if staff do not know how to use it. Ask for training, guides and practice activities.

3. Can you track results?

Ask how you will know it works. Look for simple measures such as plans completed and next steps taken.

4. Are the claims honest?

Be careful with big promises. Ask whether results are independently checked. A new method should say clearly that it is new.

5. Is the price clear?

Ask what is included, how many counsellors can use it and what happens next year.

Our approach

The School licence covers every counsellor on one campus, includes a 30-minute start call, and is described openly as a proposed method that is not yet independently validated. Book a school session to discuss it.

Questions

How long does it take to start?

A small pilot can start in one term.

Do we need new staff?

Not always. One named lead with protected time is often enough.

Can one licence cover many campuses?

No. Use the network licence for many campuses.
